"All creation holds its breath, listening within me,
because, to hear you, I keep silent."
- Rainer Maria Rilke
In February and August each year, we offer Monastic Experience Weekends to give women discerning a religious vocation an immersion in our communal prayer and a taste of our way of life through the witness and experience of some of our sisters. These events also offer the joy of meeting other young women who are seeking their place in the Church. Time is provided for individual conversations with the sisters on the formation team.
If you are a single Catholic woman of any racial or ethnic background, between the ages of 20 and 40, you are most welcome. Come and see!
Monastic Experience Weekends will be held February 17-19, 2017 and August 18-20, 2017.
"The weekend was a rare and beautiful taste of monastic life. We were welcomed and guided into the rhythms of prayer and silence, moderated by sessions of explanation, history, opportunities for questions and personal conversation. An experience for the whole being, engaging the mind, body, and heart, the weekend provided a supportive and immersive atmosphere for an encounter with the Eternal in the present."
"I remember clearly the rock I sat on amidst the ocean of fields at Mount Saint Mary's. It was where Jesus kissed me and where I embraced Him as He welcomed me back home to a reality I did not even know I belonged to. God hid Himself here at the Abbey this weekend, but He helped me find Him. He led me to authentic peace in the earth, the prayer, the study, the silence, the souls, and the love. I have kept His revelation close to my heart and now want nothing more than to return it to Him for His greater glory."
"I am so thankful for this experience of the prayer, communion, and beauty of monastic life as the sisters welcomed us into their home. I treasured the opportunity to join in the rhythms of the liturgy, to understand more deeply the Cistercian charism, and - most importantly - to ask the sisters all of my (many!) questions and receive their thoughtful, honest answers."
